Charitra-Part 1.
Yes, Aalavandhan after more than 10 years I guess. Never got to watch this
movie for some peculiar reason. The same is the case with Guns of Navarone
and Mackenna's gold, both I always wanted to watch on the big screen and
never could. Anyways, coming back to these 2, while Aalavandhan is a
superbly crafted piece of work, RC1 is a pathetic excuse of a movie. Given
that there are not too many story lines in the world that can involve
corrupt politicians, angry young men out for vengeance and docile women, it
was completely unnecessary for RGV to make the movie so damn predictable.
To quote a few, the scene in which Vivek kills Kotta in his house in the
guise of a police man, the elaborate dialogue between Kotta and the other
policeman where Kotta demeans the police force is quite unnecessary and by
the time they are half way into it, you are pretty much clear that Vivek is
going to kill him disguised as one. In the scene where Vivek invites all
the goondas of Andhra and asks them to stop goondaism, even the dialogues
were predictable. Why RGV why.? Why do you insult movie goers
intelligence.?. To write more about this movie would be a complete waste of
time.
On the other hand, Aalavandhan, just makes you understand why Kamal is the
real Aalavandhan( the one who came to rule) the south Indian cinema. His
mastery of screen play (I will tell you why), the characterization of each
character, the way he plays a paranoid schizophrenic who lives in his own
illusional world is just near perfect. The way he has mixed the characters
emotions with that of one who has taken 'ecstacy", the drug, is simply
superb. I can not proceed without explaining about the screen play. This
was given by KB the great in an interview about Kamal himself. Perfect
screen play is one in which each scene has a beginning, a middle and an
end, with the end leading to the next scene. In this manner, right from the
first scene to the last scene of the move the continuity and wholesomeness
of each scene has to be perfect. I watched Aalavandhan with this newly
gained knowledge and it gave me another perspective to watch the movie. And
did I enjoy.?? Absolutely. I was not able to find one fault in the movie.
Even the sceen where the half wit from the local community comes to meet
Major Vijay and then exits without a word and the scene where the Major
goes to see the same person the next day. All of them have a connection and
that makes it a beauty to watch. Enough said, I am going to watch it once
more. In case you have not so far watched this movie. Please do. The story
line is simple. One wicked step mother, one toss of a coin and one of the
twins escape the torment to become a Major (Vijay) and the other, continues
to be ill treated and turns out to be Abhay the psychcologically distrurbed
twin. When the Vijay falls in love and wants to marry Raveena Tandon
(Tejaswini), Abhay relates the situation, that she is pregnant, to the way
the step mother entered their world and believes that Tejaswini is the step
mother and wants to kill her. How Vijay thwarts the attempt is the story.
Simple story line. Extremely well told.
