Will Kantha Be the Next Neelambari? Jailer 2 a fan review

 First Half – Thalaivar’s Territory

The first half is packed with mass moments tailor-made for Thalaivar Rajinikanth fans. The style, swagger and screen presence are all there, delivering the kind of high moments that make a Rajini film special. But the show-stealer for me is Moorthi Annan, who makes a strong impression whenever he appears. Dileep puts in a good performance, and the comedy works well, keeping the proceedings entertaining.

The Annamalai reference, with Thalaivar sitting while Dileep stands, is a lovely touch that longtime fans will instantly appreciate. It is these little nods to Thalaivar’s legacy that add an extra layer of enjoyment.

Second Half – A Few Speed Bumps

The second half loses a little momentum, with some emotional scenes stretching longer than necessary. A few song sequences also feel like forced additions rather than organic parts of the narrative.

The party song, in particular, might have worked better for a Hindi audience. The Tamil lyrics and the dance moves seem out of sync, making the sequence feel somewhat disconnected.

Vidya Balan and SJ Suryah deliver credible performances, adding weight to the proceedings. The surprise cameo is another welcome moment that lands well.

And then comes the Baashha reference! The “Boot sattham kekudhu…” moment, with the officials getting up to their feet, is pure nostalgia. A scene that speaks volumes without needing much explanation. For a Thalaivar fan, these callbacks are priceless.

Overall – A Treat for Thalaivar Fans

Despite the occasional dip in pace, Jailer 2 delivers enough mass moments to keep Rajini fans happy. Anirudh is in fine form, but it is the BGM and re-recording that work their magic, elevating the high points and adding that extra punch to the cinematic experience.

More importantly, the film leaves us with the promise of another intense showdown in the third instalment, this time with Kantha in the picture.

And that brings us to the big question: Will Kantha be the next Neelambari?

Neelambari remains one of the most iconic adversaries in Thalaivar’s cinematic universe. Can Kantha rise to that level of intensity, menace and screen presence? The stage seems set, but the answer will have to wait.
